A Launching Point for Our Graduates
The BSF staff are always looking for ways to help our kids reach their potential and become fully independent. Once our children graduate, they need a safe place to stay where they can have time to find a good job to support themselves and to learn the life skills they need to be successful.
Some of our older children do not have any family or friends to “fall back on” and live with for awhile while they are applying to jobs and get ready to live on their own. For that reason, BSF staff have recently rented a four bedroom, first floor apartment in Maharajgunj — which is very close to the BSF office in Sukedhara. It was a challenge finding an affordable place, since rents have skyrocketed in Kathmandu in recent years. Many people find housing expensive and end up living in places in very poor conditions.
Our apartment for the older children in transition is truly lovely. I had a chance to visit, look around, and get the full “tour” of Iswhori’s room, Pasang’s room with an extra bed for Raj who is staying there through the holiday season, the main room, and the kitchen. The rooms are spacious and the place has freshly painted pink walls, a well equipped kitchen, and built in cabinets — the neighborhood is incredibly quiet, too!
I was served a fabulous meal by Sarita. Some some of the other older children joined us for dinner, too, along with Yogesh, Leena, Brahmi and Himal. It was a great time to sit together, share Nepali food, and catch up with each other!
