Learn more about Our Partner in Nepal
Bhuvaneshwori Satyal Foundation (BSF) has been a partner of Mitrata since 2009. However, they have not always been the BSF we know today. It wasn’t until 2012 that BSF expanded to manage the underprivileged children in our sponsorship programs who live in boarding schools, at home with guardians, or attend universities and colleges. Additionally, prior to 2013, BSF was known as Center for Child Studies and Development (CCSD) a program for early childhood education for children of poor and migrant families. The name was changed to honor the late Mrs. Satyal, the founder of CCSD and a pioneer in social work with children in Kathmandu. Today, staff and board members from Mitrata make trips twice per year to oversee our programs, while BSF manages the daily operations and needs of our education and health services for our children in Nepal.
It is due to the hard work and dedication of the BSF staff that our programs were able to remain operational throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. They supplied the families we serve with emergency kits of food, hygiene products and household needs. Additionally, they provided the children with cellphones, laptops and school supplies, and conducted socially distanced, staggered classes for small groups of students at our Contact Center. Through cellphones and home visits, BSF kept in contact with the children despite the social distancing and periods of lockdown.
Every year, BSF Executive Director, Leena Satyal, and BSF Board President, Yogesh Satyal, participate in our Strategic Planning meeting, which is vital for the success of the strategic plan. In 2022, Leena and Yogesh participated in-person for the first time in three years. They were also part of our 20th Anniversary Celebration and met with many of the St. Louis-based child sponsors to provide them with personalized updates on their sponsored children. Throughout every year there is much communication between Mitrata and BSF staff about our Nepal programs, status of the children, financial information and coordination of our efforts to meet our mission’s goals.
Over the years, as our partnership has strengthened and Mitrata has grown, BSF has expanded as well. Just recently, due to the addition of Mitrata sponsored children, BSF added two new staff members. With these additions and our recent website updates, it was time for updated staff profiles on the “Our Partner in Nepal” page. The page was also updated to include more information about BSF, and links to other BSF blog posts!
