An Adventurous Excursion

Rick, Michael, Anna, and Traci arriving in Pokhara!

A group of four adventurous Mitrata trip participants spent four days trekking in the “hills” around Phewa Lake in Pokhara, Nepal, with the opportunity to view sunrise in the Annapurna range of the Himalayan mountains from Panchase Peak.

The trek boasted some incredible views of the Annapurnas, Lamjung, Gangapurna, and Machhapuchhare (Fishtail) and three peaks over 8,000m: Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, and Manalsu, in the distance. Along the way, the trekkers passed through many villages and stayed in tea houses that offered them a different perspective of life in Nepal distinct from that of the city.

They also had the chance to cross Phewa Lake by boat, visit the World Peace Pagoda (also known as the Pokhara Shanti Stupa), and see the Pumdikot Shiva Statue, the second tallest statue of Shiva in Nepal.

It’s hard to pick a favorite part of the trek, but the memories I will take with me are the lovely people at the tea houses and the meals we had there, walking through the villages to see how people live and farm, watching the sunrise at the top of Panchase Peak, and all the smiles and laughs we shared as a group.
— Traci
I’m so glad we trekked together. It’s an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life. My three fellow trekkers were great. My favorite incident along the way (besides fixing my own broken pole) and the amazing views, was the first morning when we were all together at breakfast and watching Rick wander off with his camera. And then when he finally made his reappearance he was chatting with a local we had never seen before!

A rare photo of Rick in front of, and not behind, a camera!

The group was accompanied by an exceptional Nepali guide and porters. They were very knowledgeable, kind, and supportive, and our group enjoyed spending time with them immensely.

Our guide, Dipesh, and our porters, Tirtal and Sujal, took great care of us!

Anna got to try out being a porter for a few minutes.

A fantastic time was had by all!
