Save the date: Miles for Mitrata Kids!

We all know that 2020 has brought a lot of change for everyone. For Mitrata, the pandemic has meant uncertainty for our U.S. events and a lot of extra work from BSF in keeping up communications with our children and with delivering desperately needed supplies during Nepal’s strict lockdown. The COVID-19 crisis in Nepal has led to the closing of all schools and most businesses. Since most of our children's families are out of work during the lockdown, they are unable to afford food, medicine, hygiene supplies, and other necessities.

Basic resources like running water can be difficult to come by in normal times; the pandemic has only exasperated these difficulties

While Nepal has begun to finally relax its lockdown, our Contact Center supplies have been depleted, including food, supplies, and educational resources. To support our operations in Nepal and BSF staff as they work diligently to aid our children, Mitrata announced a virtual Trivia Night on August 15th to replace our St. Louis Trivia Night that usually occurs in April. We have been thrilled with the response and the number of teams formed over the past month, and look forward to “seeing” everyone over Zoom in two weeks! We are also very excited to announce yet another new event for 2020: Miles for Mitrata Kids!

Miles for Mitrata Kids is a great way to stay safe, healthy, and active while doing good and making a real difference for the families we serve in Nepal. This event is a “race” over 7,500 miles between a “St. Louis” and “Seattle” team to reach out children across the world in Kathmandu. Participants can walk, run, bike, or hike while they fundraise and rack up miles for their team. Mitrata has set out to raise $15,000, or $1 for each the total amount of miles it would take to reach Nepal from either St. Louis and Seattle, a symbolic gesture of reaching out to the children to provide them with the resources they need to maintain healthy lives during this time of global hardship.

Many of our children and their families rely on our Contact Center for food and supplies; closing the Contact Center has meant many families are not getting the supplies they need

Registration for this event is $50 and will launch after our virtual trivia night on August 15th. Everyone who registers will receive a commemorative embroidered patch created just for the Miles for Mitrata Kids event. Participants will register either with the Seattle or St. Louis team and compete to be first to Kathmandu!

Miles for Mitrata Kids participants are also strongly encouraged to donate or fundraise beyond this $50 registration fee. Everyone who raises $100 or more will also receive a commemorative t-shirt!

The race is on from September 1 to September 30, 2020; who will win, St. Louis or Seattle?! Follow us @MitrataNepal on Facebook or Instagram for updates!

The race is on September 1st!
