JOIN US in Nepal in 2022!
Travel with us from October 29th to November 13th 2022, as we return to Nepal for our annual child sponsor and donor trip!
We are so thrilled to be returning to Nepal in Fall 2022! While the COVID-19 pandemic stopped us from traveling in 2020 and 2021, I am excited to be able to resume this annual tradition. Traveling to Nepal gives us the important opportunity to visit our children and our NGO partner, BSF, and to provide oversight for Mitrata programs.
This trip will be a wonderful return and reunion! As supporters of Mitrata, I invite you to see firsthand the difference you have made in the lives of the underprivileged children we serve. Join me in experiencing Nepal, a culturally rich country with diverse religious traditions, amazing natural beauty, art and architecture and of course, the breathtaking Himalayas.

The Details
Our trip is roughly 16 days in duration including air travel time, and our current dates are from Saturday, October 29th, through Sunday, November 13th. Usually 3 to 4 days are spent in air travel. We will stay in moderately priced Nepali style hotels, and there will be opportunities for local guided hikes. Visiting cultural sites with rich ancient history is also enjoyed and deepens understanding of the children and their families. We will meet the children studying and living in boarding school, visit the Contact Center, our early childhood program for school readiness, see children’s homes, meet school and BSF staff, and enjoy the Mitrata annual graduation ceremony. Sponsors will take the children on at least one field trip and spend personal time with their children too. Of course, there is always shopping for Nepali handicrafts and exploration of the fascinating city of Kathmandu and surrounding areas.
We will take pandemic precautions into account for all trip activities, given the current state of COVID-19 cases and vaccination rates in Nepal, as well as federal recommendations at the time of our trip.
How Much Does it Cost?
The approximate cost of the trip is $2,600 per person and includes hotels with breakfast, transfers, admission to cultural sites, air conditioned van transportation, and guides. Other meals, taxis, tips and souvenirs are not included and are usually paid for in Nepali rupees. The current exchange rate for rupees to dollars is 120 RS = 1 USD. Air travel costs vary from year to year, and an economy roundtrip ticket to Kathmandu has previously averaged between $1,800 and $2,500 per person.
Get to Know Your Fellow Travelers and Ask Us Questions!
We schedule at least two required virtual or in person meetings at convenient times to discuss the trip, what you should take, and what to expect as a group. We go over a detailed agenda and address any questions to ensure safe and fun travel. We hope you will join us on this exploration of Nepal and visiting the Mitrata programs.
What Do Others Have to Say About the Trip?
Sponsors Hewie and Arlene have been to Nepal several times with Mitrata. In general, the couple said, “The trip was wonderfully crafted and well organized, led by the Mitrata team.” As a sponsor, Arlene calls it a ‘miracle trip’: “You can meet and hug the children we sponsor,” she says, “knowing with great confidence that he or she will be kept safe, healthy and educated and you have truly saved a life from poverty and illiteracy in a culture of true gratefulness.”
Keep an eye out for further communications in the next few months, and please direct any additional questions to us at info@mitrata.org! We will be happy to discuss the trip with you in further detail.
