Giving Thanks

Giving thanks seems to have a special meaning this year as many people around the world begin to emerge from the isolation and devastation of the pandemic.

So, we give thanks for the vaccine and all those who have saved lives and helped others through these hard times. We are especially grateful to our BSF staff in Nepal who have bravely continued their work to support our children through the pandemic, providing food, supplies, and healthcare and educational support, even at great risk to themselves.

Although Covid-19 has not left Nepal and most people there are still not vaccinated, our BSF staff have been vaccinated and have worked hard to get the children who are eligible vaccinated and teach them good hygiene for protection from the virus. The pandemic did not stop our children from progressing to another grade. We have children who have graduated and started university and vocational programs. We have children who helped their families in remote villages, worked in healthcare and volunteered to help BSF during the pandemic when they could not be in school. Their resilience in the face of all obstacles is truly amazing and so we are grateful to them for really working hard and staying focused on their studies. You can imagine how hard it has been for them, without access to internet for study, living in remote areas, and struggling to have enough food and basic facilities.

BSF staff continue to supply food and care packages to our families, as they are still struggling to get back to work. We have many more children with physical and mental health issues due to the stresses of these past two years. Yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel! Now the children are back in school and Nepal is slowly beginning to open to the world again.

All of our children and staff have survived this pandemic. We give thanks for this gift of life, and we walk toward a bright future with our children, all because of your continued loving support. Mitrata could not have survived this pandemic without you, our donors and sponsors and so we are most grateful for all of you.

May you have a joyful, peaceful holiday season!
