Sending Letters to Nepal

Every year, twice a year, Mitrata’s sponsors send letters to their children. Usually, we hand deliver these letters on our spring and fall trips and bring back letters from sponsored children to mail back to their sponsors. This year, we are will be shipping out letters for BSF to distribute. We are asking that sponsors send photos and letters to their children. We are sending out packets to sponsors this week and the pre-addressed envelopes will need to be returned by March 1.

As our children are returning to Kathmandu in the midst of uncertainty from the coronavirus lockdowns and civil unrest in the city, receiving letters of caring and warmth from sponsors is of the utmost importance. We have all been through a lot this year, and our sponsored children are no different. Their schools were shut down without warning, and they returned to their villages in a time of little food and basic necessities under strict lockdowns and economic crisis. Many of their parents lost their jobs, school continued remotely and online, and everyone had to adjust to a new way of life. Words of encouragement go a long way in uniting us from half a world away and letting us all know that we are not alone in this struggle.

Watching the sponsored children open letters, photos, postcards, and small gifts from their sponsors every year is an honor and a gift: the children are touched by this gesture of love from their sponsors. Opening these gifts and reading these letters is usually an emotional time for the children and for sponsors.

For sponsors, your letter to your child will be a source of support to them. They will appreciate knowing that you are thinking about them and knowing that you and your families are safe and well. We, as well as your sponsored child(ren), are grateful to our sponsors for their unwavering support and loving concern for our children. Although we are sad that the continued pandemic means we cannot travel to Nepal to reconnect with our kids and BSF in person, we are also grateful that BSF will once again take on the task of distributing and collecting letters in order to keep our sponsors and their children in touch. We truly will get through this together!
