A Very Memorable Holi-Day!!
Today Rick and I visited one of the apartments where students who are in 11th or 12th grade live and celebrated Holi Day. It is Nepal’s version of the springtime water festival. Holi Day, common to many Asian countries, lasts about a week, and commemorates a myth in which the god Krishna, when still a boy, outsmarted the demoness Holika. During this period, anyone is a fair target for water balloons and colored powder!
We skipped the water balloons but managed to get fairly well covered in paint. After the celebration we ate snacks and danced with the students (Bijaya Bunday, Pasang Sherpa, and Sushmita Tamung), Leena Satyal, executive director of BSF, and Sharita, a teacher and housekeeper for BSF and her son Sagun. After lunch we headed back to the hotel for a meeting with Leena and Yogesh Satyal, Board Chairperson of BSF.
As Mitrata has grown our relationship with BSF has grown deeper and we’re currently in the process of working on a new agreement between BSF and Mitrata. It was a very productive discussion, one that will continue later on during our trip and culminate in the signing of the new agreement when Leena and Yogesh visit St. Louis later on this year.
