Nepal — beautiful people, amazing mountains, yummy momos and Mitrata. What's not to like?

Mitrata is an organization of people with heart, a great mission statement, a leader with a vision, and hundreds of volunteers and sponsors who give of their time and money to help make the lives of needy children in Nepal a whole lot better. I don't think it is possible to understand the need of a country with no social welfare system until it has been seen first hand.

Because I have traveled there many times since I started sponsoring Bibek ("my son from another mother"), through Mitrata in 2009, I have seen the need for myself. I have met the dedicated people who work with and for these children. I have met and spent time with many wonderful sponsors who have also made the journey to meet their "kids". I have spent a lot of time with Christine, our fearless leader. I believe in her vision of helping these kids become educated all the way through medical school if that is their dream. And at the same time, teaching them how important it is to give back to their society. I believe these young men and woman are the future of Nepal. And maybe, just maybe, with a little help from their friends, they can make it a place where all children, no matter how poor or what horrible circumstances they come from can have a future.

Spend one day in the Contact Center with these beautiful kids and it's hard to not want to give as much as you can. A little money goes a very long way in Nepal when the right organization is using it appropriately. That is another reason we give to Mitrata. We know that every penny is going to make these kids lives better, not to high administrative costs. We can thank our volunteer organization for that. These are some, if not all, of the many reasons Rick and I support Mitrata. If I am being honest, I think we get much more from the experience than we give. Like I said. "What's not to like 😉".
